Child & Adolescent Counselling
Adolescence is like having only enough light to see the step directly in front of you.” ― Sarah Addison Allen
What is child and adolescent counselling?
Childhood and adolescence are the most sensitive phases of life and the confusion and angst experienced during this phase due to a wide number of cognitive, social and mental issues can cause repercussions that last for a lifetime. At Shubha Counselling, there is a dedicated team of child and adolescent counsellors who understand and the specific developmental phases that patients of this age group are going through and use play driven creative communication techniques (for children) and behavioural modelling for optimum outcomes. Often, younger patients are more vulnerable to depression, aggression, confusion and thrill-seeking behaviours that may be difficult to interpret even for their close circles. Issues identified and resolved at this stage offer incremental benefits throughout life which is why child and adolescent counselling is critically important.
Why do children need counselling?
Some common concerns seen in children are screen addiction, challenges in socialising, lowered self esteem and self confidence and lack of focus towards academics and these if lift unresolved can create a transformational negative impact on their developmental curve. In the current pandemic riddled times, kids are going through a particularly tough phase where not only are the above-mentioned issues amplified, but there is a lack of peer structure, free play and outdoor exposure that is so critical to this phase of growth. ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), adjustment problems, eating concerns combined with a sedentary lifestyle, aggression and sibling rivalry are other common issues children struggle with. We at Shubha Counselling Services teach the blooming minds of children with the patience, focus and sensitivity that they so desperately need in these trying times.
Why do adolescents need counselling?
Adolescents or the age group between 10 to 19 generally sees a lot of mental and physical transitions. Physically, most people go through puberty during this time and experience sudden mood swings and radical changes in thoughts along with transformation in their bodies and confusion regarding this change. Lack of correct counselling and the guidance of a rational adult may push adolescents towards wrong peer influences, substance misuse and other negative influences. The current social distancing norms have put adolescents and teenagers under a lot of pressure as their sources of social communication are cut off and they live isolated, confused and angst-ridden lives. At Shubha Counselling Services, Interactive Counselling Workshops and One on One Counselling sessions are organized that unravel common adolescent concerns through interactive discussions, games and scientifically structured interactions. We aim to become a bridge between concerned parents and their children who may suffer from some communication challenges during this challenging times.
